Every now and again, you come across some knotwork that blows your socks off! So in today’s little featured post we have on display some wonderful knotwork by featured knotter John Trevvett, who is based in the USA. Knotted Picture Frames
The knotted frame below; where on earth do you start to describe this masterpiece? Not only is the frame beautify knotted plaits sennits and weaves, it also incorporates some other decorative knots, and rope mats. Looking at this knotted frame, I see, Coachwhipping, Turks Heads, Star knots, and much more. I have to say, whenever I see a knotted frame, I am in awe of the skill that goes into making them.
Bell Rope
Bellow is another of John’s creations, a lovely example of a bell rope. Starting at the top, there is a plait leading to a Matthew Walker Knot, it then goes onto Continuous Crowning, a Star Knot, a variation of a Turks Head, Spanish Ring Knot (maybe), then finished off with a Star Knot. All it needs now is a beautiful brass bell to hang from. Since writing this, I was wrong. John says “… the centre most knot on the bell rope is a shroud knot.” Shroud Knots can be found in Ashley’s Book of Knots chapter 19.
Knotted Frame in the Pentagon
This knotted frame is hanging in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (Pentagon). This frame was made by John and Skip Hipps, some of you will also know Skip’s excellent knotwork from other knotting sites.
From a distance the knotted frame looks good on the wall……………….
OK, looks good, but lets get a bit closer…………….
Finally, we can see the knotted frame in detail, Bravo Zulu!
If you want to see more of John’s work, he does also occasionally post to some of the Knotting Facebook Groups. I hope that you enjoyed looking at some of these works of art as much as I have. Hopefully, this post will have given you some inspiration and ideas to create your own knotting works of art.
