Rope Making Machine or Work of Art
Here is a fine example of Mikko Snellman’s incredible skills. Engineering display, a sculpture, work of art or working model, whatever you want to call this it is a wonderful display. This picture depicts the process of rope making from cut plant to finished rope, what a fantastic way of demonstrating the process!
Rope Making Machine Video
If you want to get a rough idea of how a rope making machine works, you may like to watch this video of Edward De Wit operating his rope making machine to produce some polished hemp rope. Not only does Edward make his own rope and sell it, but I believe you can also purchase a similar machine from him. I would say though, the rope making machine is a bit of a monster, so postage would really need to be taken into account if you wanted a rope making machine like this one!

The quality of the cordage can be seen in this photo, also if you search this site you will find further information of how to get in contact with Mikko.

Why Join the IGKT
This is another good reason why you really should join the International Guild of Knot Tyers, you will be able to get in contact with people near you who not only produce quality cordage, rope making machines and also lovely tools. Also if you are able to attend local branch meetings, you will be able to pick up tips and trick and maybe a new knot or two. One thing that I found to be very useful, was I was able to handle other peoples work. Why does this matter, well, I thought my work was good, but I found out that it really could be much better. Not so much on how to tie knots, but how tight to tie knots. My original work felt slightly spongy, but I have since learnt how to make it harder without the knots distorting and making the end result look ugly because of attending those meetings.
