Australian Cordage Supplies – Quality Cordage Australia
Quality Cordage in Australia
If like me, you are a decorative knotter and enjoy using quality natural hard lay cordage. Then I have a solution for those of you living in the land down-under, Australia. I was recently sent a package by Philip Le Masurier. He is a very keen decorative knotter. I believe that he too became frustrated by the lack of quality cordage for his knot work. I believe that his nearest supplier was Mikko Snellman, who is on the other side of the world. If you have never used Mikko’s cordage, then DO, you will not be disappointed! However, if you do happen to live closer to Phillip, then why not get some quality cordage from him?

Hi Johnny,
Inspiring to see you receive and unbox this package from Australia. I live in Silicon Valley, California, and I have not encountered any problems in getting cordage. I buy it at the local hardware store (Orchard Supply Hardware – it’s a chain) by the foot. They have it in various diameters and colours, right next to the chain.
Keep up the good work – your efforts are appreciated.
Peter
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I certainly hope that other US visitors to this blog, actually read this comment, as they may find this useful also. I do know that some people in the States order from Mikko (I wonder if that is cordage or his kits?) Then I believe that a guy called Martin Combs also in the States does rope supplies. I think one of the biggest problems is that you can not touch before you buy, so people are wary of making a purchase. This is one of the reasons that I like to do a video review on certain products, so that people can buy with a bit more confidence. Maybe someone in the States will send me some samples to review?
That sounds right. I have bought cordage from both Mikko and Martin. Mikko’s, as you know, is amazing, but there’s the shipping, and Mikko gets backed up with orders (as well he should!) I have bought cordage, kits and tools from Mikko, and they are some of my prized possessions. My favorite cordage from Martin is the canoe twist, though I have also liked others I have bought from him. I also ordered a French marlinspike from Martin, which I love. I would be happy to send you samples of what few varieties of cordage I have bought from Martin; I think I may only have two. Feel free to share this info on your YouTube site. I really appreciate your videos. Thank you!
I think I replied to your comment on YT, but here is a link to post photos to: https://goo.gl/mQgf8E
Hi,I love what I see of the hardlain cordage and the variety of colors. Where in South Africa can I buy cordage?
I really do not know, but I will ask in some groups and get back to you……………
I have had the following response to my question: “Stateline Braiding, Southern Ropes, and also Laaiplek Handelshuis. Southern have a factory shop that sells odd lengths too, btw… And I forgot about Rope World in Diep River. Try them first.”
Have also been told, you could try Englund Marine…………
