Dipping the Eye
Dipping the Eye – Sharing a Mooring
If you need to attach the eye of your rope to a pile or a bollard that is already being used by another vessel, then this is a neat little trick that is useful to know. By dipping the eye when docking, means that when ever any vessel wants to leave, they can remove their eye of rope without having to mess about with the other vessels rope.
I think that the video below, makes it clear to understand.
Brilliant to see IGKT again I was a member about 30 years maybe 40 years ago. When the magazine delivered was a photocopy. Good to see you on the net.
Brings back a lot of good memories.
We are just the Solent branch, there is also the main IGKT site on-line also. However, if you go onto FaceBook there are now so many knotting groups, which have some very talented knotters.
Thank you for your quick reply. It is a long time since I gave up knotting. I was in the fire service for 21years, made a few knotting boards and a scout leader.. Also took on the home office referring to the reef knot tying lines of equal thickness with the help of the guild I think it was Geoff Budworth. It was taken out of fireman’s service drill book as it was then.
Now I have taken up paracording which is interesting and lighter than rope work. Thanks again for the reply and refreshing old memories.
