Knot Tying on HMS Victory
Every Wednesday in August the IGKT Solent Branch have a display and workshop on the Lower Gun Deck of HMS Victory.
It is a very busy day for the team, as the Victory attracts a lot of visitors on a daily basis. Not only does the IGKT display some fine examples of knotting, but they also demonstrate how to tie certain knots. Also as part of the demonstration there is a small rope making machine, here visitors can make some rope and take it home as a souvenir. Children especially love it because they can choose what colour twine to use in making up the rope.

It was also good to see Gordon Perry back in action – I think he is demonstrating a knotting app on his phone? He was especially pleased as it brought back wonderful memories of when as a lad he was a “Powder Monkey” on Victory!
Of course Bob Pearce was there causing the usual mayhem, whilst demonstrating tricks that can be done with rope.
